Timber windows at the Front House needed to be refurbished and glazing upgraded to improve the heat retention.
Ground floor bay window consisted of three casement windows, one in the middle as a tri-part and one on each side, all original timber windows and top sashes having a colourful historical leaded glass.
The windows needed some minor repairs to bottom frames and were painted shut so client wanted to have one sash openable in the middle tri-part window and the rest fixed, retain top sash original colourful glass but add slimline double-glazed units.
We stripped loose and defective paints where necessary, repaired the frames and sashes.
Then we upgraded bottom sashes with new Slimline double-glazed units, fitted new brass fittings and new hinges to the middle sash to be openable and draught proofed the window.
We retained colourful leaded glass to top sashes but added Slimline double-glazed units from inside so not to lose the original glass authenticity from the outside.
Once repair and upgrade were done we painted all windows in High gloss oil-based paints as it last longer than water based paints.
Similar work was done to timber sash windows at First Floor bay window and one side window.
We repaired rotten sec ons where necessary, upgraded single glazing with new Slimline double-glazed units, fitted new draught proofing brushes, adjusted weights, replaced cords, fully painted and fitted new brass fittings.
The end result is windows are beautifully finished and energy efficient, opening and closing smoothly and free from draughts.
