Casement Window Repair/Refurbishment

Conservation of Historic Casement Windows

A lot of our work is in the refurbishment of casement windows for period homes and all our work is carried out with best conservation practise. We ensure adherence to current standards by staying up to date through training and updates from societies such as Irish Georgian Society and others.

The NUMBER ONE STEP we take at first is, we always trying to protect and save the existing casement windows and historic glass where possible. If we cannot conserve the old casement windows which is rarely the case then we reconsider what is next solution.
While carrying out a refurbishment or replacement of casement windows we take great pride in our ability to precisely match the original features to ensure the new joinery captures the history of the property and old rotten or damaged parts are spliced with new elements of Accoya wood to replicate in detail to their original historically accurate traditional casement windows with matching glazing profiles.

Casement Window Draught Proofing

Casement windows can be affected over time much like the sliding sash. Gaps can open up for a number of reasons such as paint build up, weathering, warping or just general wear. We can apply draught proofing to most old and new casement windows.

If your casement windows are in extremely good order, installing a draught proofing system is the most economical way of improving the thermal efficiency of your windows, reducing condensation and damp and the amount of outdoor noise you hear inside, however it is not nearly as comprehensive as a full casement window restoration.

All draught proofing is discreetly inserted into the frame and does not alter the appearance of the casement windows in any way. The service is particularly suited to clients who live in period homes and conservation areas as planning restrictions will mean that upgrading to double glazing is often not an option.

This involves the installation of draught proofing seal into grooved/routed rebate of the frame. This type of system creates and airtight seal around the window and frame when the casement window is closed making your home warmer, reduces dust ingress and ensures smooth window operation.

As timber window experts, RepairSashWindows.ie have tackled draught proofing issue with an innovative solution that combats draughts without compromising the aesthetic of your windows.

Casement Window Double Glazing

Draught proofing your casement windows, along with insulating them with double glazing, is the key to achieving significant results – better energy efficiency, lower energy bills, and a level of comfort in the home you may never have even realised was possible.

All our double-glazed units come with energy efficient A-rated, Argon Gas or Krypton Gas filled units with warm edge spacer bar which is made from an insulated composite plastic material. This spacer bar also helps improve the energy efficiency of the overall window.

In addition, we can offer clients traditional more slimmer opening frame than our modern casements that are particular suited to period homes. The use of a slimline double glazed unit maintains the aesthetic of original period single glazed casement window, but with all the benefits of a modern double glazed window.

As your Casement Window Refurbishment Experts, we can assist by installing slimline double glazed units for period homes.

Smooth Repair/Refurbishment Work Process

Casement window repairs are carried out at our workshop and frames in situ. The apertures are securely boarded to protect the interiors until casement windows can be re-instated. Our craftsmen remove all the old paint, carry out splice repairs with Accoya wood where there is any rot or damage, paint and draught proof the windows and frames. The original glass is conserved where possible. When the casement windows and frames are ready, the windows will be refitted, realigned and replaced with new hinges where required.

After all, your windows will not only look beautiful, but they will also open and close with ease, will be draught-proof, soundproof and rattle-free.
