Sash Window Refurbishment
In 2024 we won a tender to fully restore 53 no. timber sash windows at Arthur's Hotel, 66-68 Gardiner Street, D1.
The building is a Protected Structure so all the repairs and any alterations to the original windows needed be done in accordance with Timber Sash Window Restoration Methodology, then checked and confirmed by Conservation Architect.
We repaired and painted frames in situ and delivered sashes to our workshop in Drumree, Co. Meath for any repairs and painting. We stripped loose and defective paints down where necessary, assessed the decay, removed rotten sections as little as possible to sound wood, spliced in with new elements of Accoya hardwood which has a 50 year guarantee against rot.
Then we replaced damaged / cracked glass with new float glass, replaced cords, adjusted existing weights and fitted new brushes to draught proof the windows.
For final touch, we traditionally hand-painted windows in standard white colour for a truly authentic look and fitted new Brighton fasteners, sash lifters and sash rings in brass colour.
As specialists in timber sash window restoration and conservation, we were delighted to bring back sash windows to their glory.
